To download get the BitTorrent client here and a .torrent file from any of the torrent search engines listed above ("Download Torrent" button/link)

This lists all the active trackers for this torrent, not just the ones embedded in the .torrent file.
You can get a µTorrent compatible list here. This will speed up your download.
Please note that this page does not hosts or makes available any of the listed filenames. You cannot download any of those files from here.
This list is automatically generated from a “.torrent” file which is simply metadata for the bittorrent protocol. You cannot download the “.torrent” file from here either. We don’t even cache it. If you are lucky the “.torrent” file might still be available on the pages where we found it. There is a list of URLs on top of this page where you might want to start your search. Those domains are completely independent; we have absolutely no control over them. Please don’t blame us if your monitor explodes.

This is a guide to getting FF8 PC to work on any OS with any version. All this requires is that you have the 5CDs (or ISO equivalents) and a will to listen and read carefully.
After installing the game to whatever directory you choose (I will use E:\FF8 in my example since it is a non-standard installation path), mount/insert the first CD into your drive.
Take note to what drive (letter) you will be using to mount/insert the first CD (I will use S:).
After having done so, open up your registry editor. (For those who are new to this: 1. click your start button 2. click run 3. type in regedit and hit enter)
In regedit, find the key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Square Soft, Inc\FINAL FANTASY VIII\1.00
Again, for those of you new to regedit, simply browse through the following folders (in this order) until the pane on your right displays several items, of which one will be "DataDrive".
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
SOFTWARE
Square Soft, Inc
FINAL FANTASY VIII
1.00
Right click on the string value labelled "DataDrive" (it will have an icon with the letters ab on it to the left of it) in the right pane of the regedit browser.
Click "Modify"
In the field marked "Value Data" which is the only field you can change, it will probably display something like "c:"
This is where knowing your installation cd drive letter comes into play
Change the "c:" to whatever drive you installed FF8 with (for example "s:\")
Click OK
Close regedit.
Run ff8.exe or your appropriate shortcut.
That's it - all done. I have tried to make this guide as easy as possible as it took me about 2 hours to finally find out the no cd crack is even necessary for this game, just some regeditting fun. So hope you appreciate it and lay on the feedback/success!

can anybody help?
Second, thanks Atton for the useful guide.
Third, the only complain I face is that: anyone know if there's no theme-music at all in the cities and worldmap?( there's only noise of walking, magic actions.) If it is deducted, it's a pity b'cause music is one of best feature of FFVIII!
any ideas... perhaps the file to make it registeredd...

help guyz..thx
it works on my xp(desktop) but it doesn't work on my vista(laptop)..
any ideas on how to work on vista??
**** problem..
If some1 figures out how to get it work, Please type it here thanks!
I'm guessing you have 64-bit windows. I had the same problem. 64-bit users need to go SOFTWARE->WOW6432NODE->SQUARE SOFT INC
EVERYBODY, make sure you make the change in REGEDIT BEFORE trying to run the game. If you already ran the game, then uninstall, install again, change regedit, and LASTLY run the game.
i was able to install this on my desktop (windows 7 32bit),without a hitch.
but on my laptop (windows 7 64bit) i click install, the securtiy thing pops up, i allow it, but nothing happens the setup dosent appear, 64bit dosent like final fantasy??????
if any1 has any ideas wuld be appreciated
Heres my situation:
I downloaded the torrent and I have a .bin and .cue file for each disc including the install disc. I installed it and it did so fine, I then opened the game to play, still good, I get through the credits and all that to the "New Game", "Continue", "Credits" section...I click new game and....
"FF8.exe has stopped working" ???? ok so I searched and tried the steps and somehow at some point managed to get past this to "Please insert Disc 1" so I checked I had it mounted (the .cue file) and kept getting "CAUTION: Wrong Disc" I fiddled a bit more and am back to my original problem.
Please help because I'm reaching the end of my tether....
(sorry about double post)
ok heres what I did and this has apparently worked on other vista users according to the person I found this off:
ok, uninstall the game, reinstall, do the regedit thing, (keep the install disc mounted) shut down your computer, turn it back on, make a folder in the program file for the game and copy the .exe file into this new folder then right click and send to the desktop. Now open the game from there click new game, you sould get the insert disc one (don't panic remember you still have the installation disc mounted) use whatever you use to come out of it (without closing the program) and change the mounted disc for disc one, then go back into the program and press X,
VOILA
WORKING GAME....so far....
I got so excited all I've seen is the sea so far before I came to type this up!
