no it dosent...it slows it down...try this...
have a lot of jpeg wallpaper/pics(few 100 megs) in a folder and try to move them from one drive to the other...
now rar them up and move them...you will know the difference...
there are more headers/checksums/sessions etc. when there are more no. of files
