in this game lag is when your soldiers take too long to start their orders, if that is happening to you try shutting down all special effects and put resolution in 800x600
This game is not optimazed for dual core expect lag in case you have one
should work ok in pentium 4 2000 mhz or HT
you will have vertex shader error when you use geforce 6 family or lower
this boards dont suport vertex shader so they cant render the game's graphics...sorry
when I fix my comp i will test it in geforce 7, I will comment here in case it fails to run in geforce 7

You should worry about trackers, they are the ones who find peers and seeders for you
