If you use winavi to convert the file to dvd format, you can offset the bottom of the screen by 8% in the advanced option which trims off the subtitles. Film still looks great and it's not noticable. The best you'll get until a R1 or R2.

It has russian subs but you can trim these off with Winavi. They don't intrude very far into the picture
